Twenty-one or over, checked in daylight
Everyone in the room has to be twenty-one or over, which is why a photo document can be asked for at the door on a bright afternoon just as at any hour.
The line is twenty-one, it applies to whoever books and to everyone else who will be in the room, and it applies to the therapists as well. It is the same line at eleven in the morning as at two the following night, and nothing about daylight softens it.
What happens at the door
She may ask to see a photo document. If she does, she looks at it, and hands it straight back in the same movement. Nothing is copied, nothing is photographed, no number is written down and no record of it survives the doorstep. The point of the check is the answer to one question, which is whether the room is what the booking said it was. Guests sometimes expect a bright corridor to make the moment awkward and it tends to do the opposite: an afternoon lobby is busy and incurious in a way a silent one at three in the morning is not.
When it goes the other way
If the question of who is in the room cannot be settled, she leaves before anything begins. That is not a judgement about anyone, it is simply the only outcome available when the answer is unclear. A booking that ends there is read on the notice scale in the ordinary way.
A couple, and a third person
On a couples booking both people are covered by the same line, and both may be asked. Anyone else in the room, including someone who is only there to watch, has to be twenty-one or over as well and has to have been mentioned in the thread beforehand.
