Soapy massage in Amsterdam, planned around the bathroom
Soapy massage starts in the bathroom and lives or dies on what the bathroom turns out to be. Warm water, a great deal of foam, and a session in which washing and massage are the same activity rather than two activities in sequence. It is playful in a way that almost nothing else on this menu is, which makes it an odd but reliable afternoon booking: bright, warm, slightly comic in the opening minutes, and over without a trace. The honest constraint is the room. A wet room with a bench is the dream and nobody has one. What most hotel rooms offer is a shower cubicle and a basin, which is enough for a good version and not enough for the full one.
Where it comes from
Foam and water as a service is old and well documented. The Ottoman bath house had a professional washer who worked the bather over on a heated marble slab with a coarse mitt and a great deal of soap, and the timetable of those houses ran by daylight, with different hours set aside for men and for women through the day. Southeast Asia developed its own soapy tradition later and on a different footing. What survives in the hotel room version is the sequence rather than the architecture: wash, work, rinse, warm, in that order.
The technique
Heat before anything. She raises the temperature of the water and the room first, because a cold bathroom makes the format impossible. Foam is worked up in the hands and applied in layers rather than dumped, so it stays on the skin instead of sliding off. Her forearms and body do more of the work than her fingers, since soap removes friction and there is nothing left to grip with. Rinsing is done in stages rather than at the end, which keeps the temperature stable. The move to the bed is planned rather than improvised, with towels laid out in advance so nobody crosses a cold floor wet.
What to expect
It begins with water rather than oil, which surprises people who booked it expecting a massage with soap added. She washes first, thoroughly and slowly, and that phase is longer than you would guess. Foam is built up by hand rather than poured, and the work moves between washing, gliding and rinsing without ever announcing which is which. Warmth is the whole environment: the room needs to be hot before you start, so turn the heating up an hour before she arrives rather than when she knocks. She says where her limits are at the start of the visit and they stand for the whole of it. The session moves to the bed for the last part, dry and warm, which is where most guests would happily stay.
Who it suits
The guest who wants an hour with some humour in it. Anyone who arrives straight from a long walk or a morning of meetings and would rather begin clean. Couples occasionally book it and it works, though the bathroom decides how well. It is not the format for a small tray shower over a bath, and it is not the one to take if you want to be oiled and left alone in the dark.
Benefits
Nothing about it is solemn, and for a guest who finds candlelit sincerity faintly ridiculous that is the entire recommendation. It also leaves you clean, warm and awake at the end of it, which in the middle of a working day is a more useful result than being oiled and sleepy. Nothing needs clearing up afterwards beyond hanging two towels over a rail.
At your address
Soapy massage booked into a hotel room or apartment across central Amsterdam through the daylight hours, outcall only, ninety minutes recommended.
Length
Ninety minutes is the length that works, because the washing phase is real and an hour forces it into a rush. Two hours gives the bed section the time it deserves. An hour can be booked and often is, but expect the bathroom part to be brisk and the bed part to be short.

Questions
What if my bathroom is small?
Small is workable and awkward is not. A cubicle with a fixed head and room to stand is fine. The setups that cause trouble are a hand held head over a bath and a wet floor with nowhere to put a towel. Describe the bathroom in the first message, plainly, and you will be told honestly whether the hour is worth booking as soapy or as something else.
Does this ruin the room for the rest of the day?
No. Water goes where water goes, towels hang on a rail, and nothing is left that anybody would look at twice. If you want the room dry and ordinary before the evening, book for early afternoon rather than five o'clock and the bathroom has hours to sort itself out.
Is it cold getting between the bathroom and the bed?
It is if nobody plans for it, which is why the heating goes up before she arrives and towels are laid out first. That short walk is the part guests remember going wrong in a badly run version, and it is entirely preventable with two minutes of preparation.
Can I combine it with oil work?
That is how most ninety minute bookings actually run: foam and water first, then dry, warm and oiled on the bed. Say so when you book and the hour is planned that way from the start rather than improvised at the halfway mark.
